HAVE YOU PAID YOUR 2009-2010 DUES?
I am now sending The Anchor Line by email and the US Postal service.
For those that receive it by USPS the date that your dues are paid through will still appear below the return address on the last page. If there is no date then your dues are past due.
For those receiving The Anchor Line by email, First of all thanks for saving us the postage. As of yet I haven't discovered how to send the dues date by email, but I am still working on it.
If anyone has a question concerning their dues, feel free to call me at (864) 348-3989 or you can mail your questions to me at 265 Lake Shore Drive, Iva, SC 29655 or email me at rwvaughn@wctel.net
The President's Corner
By Bill Broome
The "SEASON" has officially arrived at Lake Secession!! The boats and jet skis have been abundant most weekends and the unfortunate folks that aren't able to live here year round are back after their winter break. Even though summer is a week or so away still, it's here already on our wonderful lake. I hope all of you have a great summer and look forward to seeing you out and about. If you're down by the dam, stop by our place on 1st Avenue and visit for a while.
With the arrival of summer and the increased boat and jet ski traffic, it's appropriate to mention water safety. If you or family members are out and about, be sure to look out for the other guys. If it's a young person on a jet ski, they might be having too much fun to be paying attention. Talk with all your family and guests about having a good time, but it's equally important that no one gets hurt. If you have questions about water rules and regulations, we have pamphlets available at the fire station or you can also get from our DNR guys on the lake. Contact any officer or board member or just flag down the DNR boat to get your copy.
Also, just a reminder about our "dream" of beginning the search for a piece of land for a future community center that I mentioned in the last newsletter. If you're interested in discussing or getting more details, give me a call at 446-7625 or visit at our upcoming picnic on the 27th. We have just begun but the sooner we can obtain a piece of land, the quicker we can really get to work on this project to make the Lake area an even more attractive place to live.
We have lots of activities upcoming beginning with the annual picnic on the 27th. There will not be a regular July monthly Association meeting as we will have a very brief "meeting" at the picnic. Then on the 4th, the boat parade is at 2 p.m., and the great fireworks show is around "dark thirty"- that's around 9 p.m. or so for those folks that aren't from around here. We look forward to a great day, and hope that the weather cooperates better than last year.
Also, a final word regarding the Association's current activities and a request for your help. We have just completed elections for the 2010 year. We had 5 Board members whose terms were up and also voted on Officers, all of whom ran unopposed. Many thanks go out to the following Board Members who have served faithfully this past term: Juanita Williams, David King, Louise Looney, Mary Jane Coffee and Duane Bannister. The new Board Members elected will be introduced at the upcoming picnic. I found it discouraging that less than 1/3 of our current membership cast ballots in the election! I encourage you to become more active in the Association by casting your ballots every election and by attending our monthly meetings the 1st Thursday night each month at 7 p.m. at McGill Fire Station. We need your help and input! We have a really good thing going at Lake Secession but need your help to keep it thriving. Have a great summer and see you on the Lake!!

Lake Secession Boat Parade
Remember the annual 4th. of July boat parade. It will be assembling at 1:30 at the public boat landing and departing at 2:00. We appreciate everyone who takes part. Prizes will be rewarded to the first 6 places. If you would like to participate in the parade, you can pick up your numbers and parade rules at the following places: Jetts Landing, Midway Marine, and Crawfords Store. Decorate your boats, or PWC's, and have a great time.
Each year we try our best to please everyone for visibility and enjoyment of the parade and each year we receive complaints. Due to longevity we can not go all the way down one side and up the other which causes over heating of boat motors and also overheating of people. We were asked by DNR not to cross back and forth across the channel. Therefore we are stuck toward the middle. We suggest the best way to enjoy the parade if possible is to bring your family and friends out on a boat and sit off to the side of the waters edge. Sorry for any inconvenience but we are also limited.
We are looking forward and excited to see the creative ideas that our lake friends and family have. So come join in the fun by participating or watching.
